Gone Away

An RPG adventure game I made for the Aard Game Jam #3 using the YAHAHA Game Studio.

Role: Game Developer | Designer

Tools Used: YAHAHA Game Studio

Overview:Gone Away is an RPG adventure game created for Aard Game Jam #3 using YAHAHA Game Studio. Within 48 hours, I designed and built the game, incorporating key features like quests, crafting, buffs, different weapons, and a challenging platformer-style obstacle course, including a final dragon boss fight. The project pushed my ability to learn a new game engine and apply core game development principles quickly.

My Contributions:

  1. Game Engine Exploration & Level Design:

    • Learned the YAHAHA Game Studio engine and used it to design levels, ensuring seamless gameplay and interactive environments for the RPG adventure.

  2. Quest System & Buffs:

    • Implemented a quest system to guide players through the game and incorporated permanent and temporary buffs via consumable items to enhance player stats.

  3. Crafting System:

    • Created a crafting system that allowed players to gather materials and create useful items, adding depth to the gameplay experience.

  4. Platformer Mechanics & Obstacles:

    • Designed a platformer-style obstacle course that challenged players' movement and skills, integrating it seamlessly into the game world.

  5. Weapons & Enemy NPCs:

    • Added different weapons for the player and designed multiple enemy NPCs with varying behaviors, enhancing the RPG combat dynamics.

  6. Dragon Boss Fight:

    • Developed a dragon boss fight, creating a climactic challenge for players that incorporated both combat and strategy.

Impact & Results:The project was an exciting challenge, requiring quick learning and adaptation to the YAHAHA Game Studio engine. Despite the tight 48-hour timeline, I successfully developed a complete and engaging game with RPG elements, delivering an enjoyable and dynamic experience within the constraints of the game jam.
